WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION?

What happens in a session?

The initial consultation appointment, which can last anything up to 2 hours, affords plenty of time for us to discuss your presenting problem and how I will work with you to facilitate the changes you are seeking. It might be appropriate to use a combination of therapies according to the needs and preferences of the individual, but this will always be discussed first. This appointment also gives you the opportunity to ask as many questions as you want so that you feel happy with the therapy and how it is used. It is of paramount importance that you feel comfortable with your choice of therapy and me as your therapist. I will give you a clear explanation of hypnotherapy and how it works and give you examples. We will discuss an appropriate treatment plan for you, which can include practical and written exercises to work on between treatments. At the latter part of this first appointment there is usually an opportunity to carry out some preliminary work.

Subsequent sessions last approximately 1 hour.

How many sessions will I need?

This question is often asked and is extremely difficult to answer, especially before I have seen and discussed your presenting problem. As a general guide it would be very unusual to see someone for more than 6 sessions, but this would be reviewed around Session 5. However, in certain rare circumstances additional treatments may be required. Many symptoms/problems can often be dealt with in a much shorter period of time, sometimes even in 1 – 2 sessions. A Smoking Cessation appointment for example is conducted over one 2 hour session.
