BIRTHING With hypnosis

What Is Birthing With Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a naturally induced state of relaxed concentration, a state of mind and body in which we communicate suggestions to our unconscious mind. This part of our mind influences what we think, how we feel and the choices we make. There is no magic to achieving success with self-hypnosis, anyone who chooses, with practise, can reach deep relaxation and re-directed focus. The state of hypnosis is similar to daydreaming or when you are engrossed in a book or staring at a fire. You will be fully aware and able to communicate working with your body, but able to experience your birthing in an atmosphere of calm and relaxation without the fear and tension that causes pain, allowing your body’s natural anaesthesia (endorphins) to replace the stress hormones that cause pain. When it is time for your baby to be born you will be fully awake and involved.

What are the Advantages?

  • Shortens Labour
  • Reduces fatigue during labour
  • Reduced use of pain medication with reduction of undesirable effects (due to medication) for mother and baby
  • Reduction of Fear-Tension-Pain before and during labour, with consequent rise in pain threshold
  • Minimised maternal exhaustion
  • Promotes speedier recovery after delivery
  • Reduces incidence of instrumental/surgical deliveries (i.e. forceps, ventous or caesarean sections).
  • Enhanced baby’s well-being
  • Reduces risk of Post Natal Depression
  • Promotes higher Apgar score (measurement of baby well-being i.e. pulse, respiration, effort, muscle tone, colour, cough reflex).

Hypnotherapy can also be very helpful with some of pregnancy complications, such as excessive nausea and vomiting, pregnancy induced hypertension, miscarriage and premature labour.
